For most home service businesses, Google Business Profile drives more calls than the website itself — it appears above organic results for local searches and is often the first (and only) thing a searcher looks at before calling.
Getting the basics right
- Business name matching exactly what’s on your signage and legal documents — no keyword-stuffing
- Accurate primary category, plus every relevant secondary category
- Complete service list with descriptions
- Accurate service area — every city or region you actually serve, and nothing you don’t
- Correct hours, including holiday hours
Ongoing activity that moves the needle
- Fresh photos uploaded regularly — trucks, team, completed jobs, before/afters
- Google Posts at least a few times a month — promotions, tips, recent work
- Prompt responses to every review and every question in the Q&A section
- Messaging enabled and monitored, if you’re able to respond quickly
Common mistakes that hurt rankings
- Duplicate or fake listings competing with your main profile
- An inconsistent business name/address/phone across directories (hurts trust signals)
- Ignoring negative reviews instead of responding professionally
- A profile that hasn’t been touched in months — inactivity is a signal too
