Most trade business owners don’t look at their own website often — you’re busy running the business, not auditing web pages. But a handful of common mistakes quietly cost leads every single day. Here are the ones we see most often.
1. The phone number isn’t immediately visible
On mobile especially, your phone number should be visible and tappable without scrolling. If someone has to hunt for it, a meaningful number of them will just call the next result instead.
2. Slow load times
Every additional second of load time measurably increases the chance a visitor leaves before the page even finishes loading — especially on mobile, and especially for urgent searches like emergency plumbing or towing.
3. No dedicated service pages
A single “Services” page listing everything you do in one paragraph doesn’t rank well for specific searches. Each core service deserves its own page, targeting its own specific search terms.
4. Missing or thin service-area content
If you serve multiple cities or neighborhoods, search engines need to see that explicitly — a single generic homepage rarely ranks well across an entire multi-city service area.
5. No clear calls to action
Every page should have an obvious next step — call now, request a quote, book online. A page that’s purely informational without a clear action leaves conversions on the table.
6. Outdated or missing reviews
Reviews build trust at the exact moment someone is deciding whether to call. A site with no visible reviews, or reviews last updated years ago, undersells a business that may actually be excellent.
7. Not mobile-optimized
The majority of trade-business searches happen on a phone. A site that’s hard to navigate, has tiny tap targets, or requires pinch-zooming loses those visitors fast.
